- Welcome
You are cordially invited to participate in the 3rd International Conference on Biodegradable and Biobased Polymers (BIOPOL-2011) to be held 29-31 August 2011, at ECPM, University of Strasbourg, France.
The conference has the aim to provide a forum for scientists from both academic and industrial laboratories (researchers, students and engineers from all over the world) to exchange up-to-date ideas on current research and new applications of biodegradable polymers and biobased materials.
The audience will be limited to 300 participants.
The conference program will feature review lectures by expert speakers from throughout the world. Invited speakers are:
* Pr. G. Decher (France) * Pr. Ph. Dubois (Belgium) * Pr. J. Kenny (Italy/Spain) * Pr. R.A. Gross (USA) * Pr. R. Gilbert (Australia) * Pr. D. Plackett (Denmark) * Pr. R. Narayan (USA) * Pr. S. Narine (Canada)
We encourage participants to present their current research works as oral communications or posters in one of the topics of the program. Scope
Bioplastics from Natural Polymers, directly extracted from the biomass:
* Polysaccharides (starch, chitin, chitosan, hemicelluloses, cellulose…), proteins (gluten, casein, zein…), lignins… * Bacterial polymers (PHAs…)
Thermoplastic and Thermosetting Bioplastics, indirectly produced from biomass:
* Poly(lactic acid) (PLA) * Materials based on glycerides (from vegetable oil, algae…) * Materials based on polyols extracted from biomass
Bioproduction, Biotech & Biodegradability:
* Biocatalysis and Biotechnological Production * Enzymatic production and modification * Biodegradation, Eco-toxicity…
Multiphase systems:
* Bio-based blends * Biocomposites (ligno-cellulose fibers…) * Nano-biocomposites (clays, silica, whisker, CNT)
Industrials Applications of Bioplastics:
* Biodegradable packaging * Biobased buildings materials * Materials for health-care…
A special session will be devoted to Biopolymers for Biomedical applications. Abstracts
Abstracts should be received before 15th April 2011 by e-mail (conf-biopol2011@unistra.fr). Indicate your preferred kind of presentation in the Email object/subject: "Oral communication" or "Poster"
* Their length should be 2 pages and 2Mb maximum, A4 size format including Tables, Figures and References (see the template). * Abstracts should be submitted in form (MS Word) according this TEMPLATE.
The abstracts will be subjected to a rigorous peer-review process. Once an abstract is accepted, the scientific committee will select those contributions that fit the oral communication sessions. The selection is made by the preferred kind of presentation indicated by the authors, the context to the oral communication session and the abstract content.
The proceeding of the conference will be based on these abstracts. This proceeding will be given at each delegate, at the beginning of the conference.
Publication
A special issue of Polymer Degradation and Stability (Edited by Elsevier) with selected papers from BIOPOL 2011 will be prepared. Authors should send their proposals to the main guest Editor (Pr. Luc Avérous, conf-biopol2011@unistra.fr) before or during the conference. Then, the selected manuscripts with the good format will be subjected to the usual refereeing procedure. Besides, some special volumes/books should be edited, with full papers from BIOPOL-2011.
More details will be published on this website. Conference Background
1st and 2nd BIOPOL were organized in Alicante (Spain) in October 2007 and 2009. It was an immediate success, with more than 150 researchers from around the world presenting their latest results on this field. The success of the previous editions aimed to go on with this 3rd edition.
Our challenge would be to improve the already excellent scientific program of the previous editions as well as to promote contacts between participants in a relaxed and pleasant environment in one of the first European Universities, in an historic city located in the heart of West Europe. The audience of BIOPOL 2011 will be limited to 300 participants.
